KaVo Heal ozone – removes caries quick and easy
Ozone therapy but also ozone treatment is a painless care mainly for caries which is being used effectively in the dentistry. It is for both the treatment of existing caries and aftercare as well as for prophylaxis. The procedure can be carried out in most cases without mechanical engagement and is safe for pregnant women and children.
The first ozone treatment took place in 1870. The name traces back to the eponym of the gas, Constantin Lederer Ozone. He used the median for inhalation. During WWI ozone was also used to treat skin deep injuries for a faster recovery. Since the 1930s ozone was used in various fields of medicine. Today the ozone therapy is mostly being used in Germany and Austria.
During the ozone treatment the affected tooth will be coated with ozone gas. The germ killing effect of the gas is scientifically proven. During the coating process bacteria which cause caries are being oxidized and eventually prop up. That way 99 percent of the bacteria can be killed. A problem might only be for deeper run caries or underneath an older filling.
The advantages for the ozone treatment are manifold:
- Completely painless for the patient
- Ozone does not affect the intact tooth substance, rather than the act of drilling
- In case of small source of caries a filling can be passed
- The treatment takes less time
These advantages save the patients a lot of stress which is in most cases associated with traditional dental work.
Aside from the treatment and prophylaxis of caries the ozone treatment helps to disinfect cavity which was caused by caries, disinfects root canals as well as dental pulp and dental nerve which in most cases is difficult to reach.
Furthermore the ozone treatment can expedite the healing process and the reconstruction of tooth substance. It may also block hypersensitivity of teeth. Even stomatitis like aphthae and herpes may be treated.
With the fortification of water with ozone molecule gingivitis and other bacterial affections can be treated.
